While readers may have their reasons for loving the films of this franchise, there are several cool facts about Transformers: Rise of the Beasts that they may not be aware of.

Five fascinating facts about Transformers: Rise of the Beasts that every fan should know

1) The movie is inspired from the Beast Wars: Transformers cartoons

The plot of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is inspired from the the 1996 TV series Beast Wars: Transformers. While the movie is not a direct adaptation of the cartoons, it is said to have incorporated themes and characters from the show's storyline.

Further, the movie will be set in the year 1994, unlike Beast Wars, which was set three hundred years in the future. The director of the film, Steven Caple Jr., explained in a press conference that he grew up watching Transformers and the Beast Wars cartoons, and they are very close to his heart:

"By the time I was a teenager, Beast Wars had come out . . . What brought me to the project was the chance to imagine on a different level and to dream. That’s what Transformers means to me. Dealing with robots, dealing with humans, and creating that bond, it’s all about the emotion and where we can take our new characters."

2) Transformers: Rise of the Beasts features a new cast

Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback will play the human protagonists of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts as Noah Diaz and Elena Wallace, respectively. The two actors will be joined by Peter Cullen, who has been the voice actor behind Optimus Prime in previous Transformers movies as well as animated Transformers titles.

The cast also includes new additions like Luna Lauren Vélez, Dean Scott Vazquez, and Tobe Nwigwe, as well as Peter Dinklage, Pete Davidson, Liza Koshy, Michelle Yeoh, Ron Perlman, and others in voice roles.

3) The movie will feature Maximals, the Predacons, and the Terrorcons

Apart from the Autobots and the Decepticons, the movie will introduce three different factions of the Transformers race, namely the Maximals, the Predacons and the Terrorcons. Maximals and Predacons are the evolutionary equivalents of Autobots and Decepticons, respectively, and can take on animal forms.

Terrorcons, on the other hand, are a faction within the Decepticons, and the main villains in the movie. The movie is expected to feature many new characters within each faction, with a major war breaking out between them.

4) Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will be the first of a trilogy

In February last year, Paramount Pictures announced that Transformers: Rise of the Beasts was confirmed to be the first of a planned trilogy. While no new information has been released regarding the two sequels or their plots, fans of the franchise can be assured that there will be a lot of Transformers content to look forward to in the future.

Paramount also revealed that a new animated Transformers film will be released in 2024.

5) The film will serve as a standalone sequel to Bumblebee (2018)

The events of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is said to begin in the year 1994. In the timeline of the Transformers film series, that puts it between 2007's Transformers and 2018's Bumblebee. While the filmmakers have confirmed that the film acts as a sequel to Bumblebee, it will only act as a soft reboot and feature an array of new characters.

Filmmakers have also confirmed that Optimus Prime will continue to feature as a main character in the film. However, fans can expect to see a different side to the beloved character in the upcoming movie. In an interview with Collider, director Stephen Caple Jr. said:

"In this film, it's forming why he has a link to humanity and why he has a link to earth, and that's emotional. It's not home yet to him. He's like an ex-pat here. He's landed, he's an alien, and he's never been here before. That allows us to get underneath the stoicism of what we've traditionally presented in Prime."

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts premieres in theaters on June 9, 2023.
