In the video, the comedian claimed that Tyler Perry told a lie about her.

"That lie cost me 12 years of my career. 12. And I know that you work for that man. But as I told you before, and I'm going to say it again, until he fixes it, I will not stop. Because that's how the monster is created. We're too afraid. We're too scared. We're too fearful that you going to take something from me. So, I'm just not going to say anything," she said.

Hicks further claimed that Tyler Perry cost her family "millions and millions and millions of dollars." She acknowledged that while the actor and filmmaker donated $400,000 to the victims of a fire and tipped someone with $3000, he knows what he has done to "a black woman named Mon'nique."

According to HotNewHipHop's report dated February 2024, the comedian shot for a Tyler Perry, Oprah Winfrey-produced movie, Precious, and was called for a promotional press tour of the same after wrapping the shoot. At the time, Monique agreed to appear in promotional interviews but stepped down from flying to the Cannes Film Festival in France.

The actress claimed that the movie's producers urged her to promote the film at Cannes; however, her appearance would have been unpaid and wasn't a part of her original film contract. Talking about the same in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Mo'nique said:

"I’m doing a talk show, I’m doing a comedy tour. I have a husband and I have babies. I have a little bit of downtime and I’m going to take advantage of it. So I’m not going anywhere because I’m not obligated to go anywhere. I’ve done my part.”

This reportedly resulted in Tyler Perry and other producers of Precious labelling Mo'nique difficult to work with, resulting in the comedian and actress losing out on projects in her career.

What did Mo'nique say to Tyler Perry in her open letter? Details explored as comedian targets Precious producer in recent podcast appearance

The recent instance of Mo'nique bringing up her feud with Tyler Perry during her appearance on the Outlaws with TS Madison podcast was not the first time she referred to the same.

In March 2025, Almost Christmas actress Mo'Nique wrote an open letter after Tyler Perry's speech at Angie Stone's funeral, where he spoke about how badly Angie was treated by record labels and promoters.

Mo'Nique questioned his empathy, saying that while his words moved her and her husband, they also made them think about the unfair way he had treated her.

Expressing her discontent with Tyler in the Instagram post dated March 19, 2025, the comedian and actress wrote:

"You expressed anger over Angie’s mistreatment. Yet, you labeled me “difficult to work with,” despite never having worked with me. How can you condemn poor treatment of others when you’ve imposed the same on me? We have audio of you admitting you were wrong."

Additionally, Mo'nique questioned that while Tyler Perry asked about the money Angie Stone was owed, where was her public apology, which he promised her in 2016. The comedian questioned Tyler's restitution for the "false narrative" he spread that blackballed her and cost her millions.

Referring to the Cannes incident, Monique added:

"You mentioned being “tired” of us not receiving the benefits we deserve. Yet, you asked me to promote Precious for free, without a contract or compensation, which highlights your double standard."

Toward the end of her open letter, the Phat Girlz actress mentioned that Tyler Perry should be held accountable just like the music industry he criticized in Angie Stone's context.

Concluding the letter, awaiting Tyler's response, Mo'nique wrote:

"In closing, I hope your words at Angie’s funeral inspire you to correct the wrongs done to my family and me. You have the power to do so. As you’ve shared biblical teachings, please remember: “What will it profit a man to gain the whole world but lose his soul” (Mark 8:36)."

While Mo'nique claims that Tyler Perry promised her an apology, the producer has remained largely silent on the issues and hasn't commented on the comedian's recent comments as well.
