According to Pitchfork's report dated September 9, 2025, the rapper pleaded no contest to two counts of being an accessory to a capital felony, a count of tampering with a witness, and a count of unlawful use of a two-way communication device. As per Cornell Law School, the plea of "no contest" means that the defendant will not contest the charges against them.

While the plea doesn't imply admission of guilt, it authorizes the court to treat the defendant as if they have committed the crime and are guilty for sentencing. In exchange for Bortlen's plea, prosecutors agreed to dismiss multiple charges against him. These charges included one count of directing the activities of a criminal gang, one count of witness tampering, and two counts of first-degree murder.

While the counts of murder and accessory concerned the murders of Anthony “YNW Sakchaser” Williams and Christopher "YNW Juvy" Thomas Jr, charges concerning witness tampering date back to 2023. Arrested in 2019 alongside YNW Melly, the no-contest plea deal helped YNW Bortlen avoid double murder charges.

The rapper will get a decade-long prison sentence and 6 years of probation. Additionally, he has agreed to cooperate with prosecutors and provide information. Moreover, the judge clarified that no information given to the prosecution will change the terms of YNW Borlten's sentence.
