Although Succession was a hit amongst the audience, the series still ended up getting over in quite a short time. When the creator of the series was asked about the reason why he decided to bid the show adieu so early, Jesse Armstrong claimed that he felt it was "natural" to end the show after season four.

During his conversation with Variety, Jesse Armstrong opened up about the ending of the series with season 4 and said, “The word that comes to mind for me is ‘natural.’ I hope people, when they see this season, will feel that it has a natural shape to it." Armstrong also added, “That’s how I pitched it to my writers’ room, kind of hoping I’d get argued out of it so we’d see a way to do more seasons because I love working with these people. I think there’s a feeling of completeness and rightness to the shape of the show.”

Jesse Armstrong also spoke about the Succession Season 4's premiere party which was also their final party as a cast and crew. Armstrong revealed that everyone was crying as they recalled their last days of shooting. He said, “It was terrible. It was a lot of people bawling our eyes out. I might start crying tonight." He also added, “It’s very, very hard to say goodbye to ‘Succession.’
