New Delhi, February 2, 2014: The people of Delhi and the NCR region turned out in large numbers at the second XWarrior Race – Delhi’s premier annual obstacle race – held at the iconic Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium on Sunday. Event organiser Sport365 Races said over 2,000 people took part in the race this year in the competitive and non-competitive categories. The participants were cheered and supported by their friends and families, pushing the total number of attendees to over 4,000 people.
In the men’s category, Ricky Sahni finished at the top spot with a time of 23m50s, while Amit Kumar Sharma and Samud Kumar took second and third place with timings of 24m04s and 24m12s respectively. In the women’s category, Jyoti Burrett took the top spot with a 30m40s finish, while Jodie List and Divya Sahasrabuddhe took the second and third spots with 35m43s and 37m43s respectively. The top three men and women participants in the individual competitive category each received a medal and certificate, in addition to prizes from Harley Davidson.
Race organizer Ajay Gupta of Sport365 Races said, “We are absolutely thrilled by the spectacular response the XWarrior race has received in only its second year. Participants have told us that they love the obstacle race format as compared to long distance running and want to participate in many more such races.”
“We are now looking at organizing more obstacle races in the coming months and taking this format to other cities like Mumbai and Bangalore as well.”
The XWarrior race was conducted over a specially designed 4km course that required participants to run on three different surfaces, climb stairs, and overcome the course obstacles by jumping, hopping, crawling and traversing over them. This year’s race featured 15 new obstacles with varying levels of difficulty. These included under and over hurdles, a 9-feet high fence with a ladder frame, a bus that required participants to enter and exit from windows, a 40-feet ropeway and a 12-feet high great wall. The obstacles were designed with inputs from structural engineers, the special forces and medical professionals.
The race featured three different categories: individual competitive, individual regular and a four-member team. All participants got a participation certificate with their individual timings, and a goody bag with merchandise from Happily Unmarried.
While the participants slugged it out in the field, their friends and families were also kept entertained with live music, Segway rides and skateboarding demonstrations.
The XWarrior race supports War Wounded Foundation, a charity dedicated to rehabilitating soldiers injured in warfare. A part of the proceeds from the registration fees for this year’s race is being donated to War Wounded Foundation.
