Run for United Kerala at Calicut Half Marathon on 24th February 2019

IIM Kozhikode launched the 10th edition of Peekay Steel Calicut half Marathon which is now open for registration. The 10th edition of the Peekay Steel Calicut half Marathon 2019 will be organised on the 24th of February 2019 at 5:30 am in the Calicut Beach area.

The event launch ceremony was held on 4th January 2019 and was inaugurated by the Assistant collector, Ms. Anju K.S. IAS.

The Assistant collector launched the official Calicut half Marathon website. Dr. Rudra Sensarma the Dean of IIM Kozhikode presented the first ticket to Mr. A.K. Rastogi, Chief Technology Officer (Works), Peekay Steels Castings (P) Ltd. The official race jersey was also launched bearing Peekay Steel as the title sponsor of the event.

This year the theme for the Marathon is ‘UNITED KERALA – UPHOLDING THE LEGACY’. Prof. Arqum Mateen, Chairperson Student’s Affairs from IIM Kozhikode spoke at length about the need and importance of mutual care and strength in unity along with the various lead-up events being conducted before the marathon.

Mr. A.K.Rastogi and Lt Col M Julius George, Chief Administrative Officer IIMKozhikode also conveyed their wishes for the marathon.

The Assistant collector spoke about the importance of the theme and stated that “as a community, we can bring about paramount changes and lead better lives”.

Calicut marathon committee strongly believes that incremental steps targeting different social issues can bring a phenomenal change when assimilated together. It is this belief that the students of IIM Kozhikode wish to encourage and promote through the marathon.

The marathon features three categories, a 21 km half marathon, a 10 km mini-marathon which are competitive races and a 3 Km “Dream Run”, a non‐competitive run featuring people from all walks of life.

The total prize money for the event is worth INR 4.5 lakhs. Over the past nine years, the marathon has been taking up unique causes every year, having focused on critical issues of women empowerment, rights of differently-abled people, waste management, organ donation and healthy living.
