Walk-the-Talk: Calicut Half Marathon 2018

IIM Kozhikode will be organizing the ninth edition of Peekay Steel Calicut Half Marathon 2018 on the 25th of February 2018. As a prelude to the ninth edition of Calicut Half Marathon, IIM Kozhikode organized the Walk-The-Talk event on 27th January, 2018 from the CSI Cathedral, Mananchira.

The event promoted morning walks and the historical significance of various forgotten landmarks of the city, which saw large participation from across the city. The walk was inaugurated by Mr. K.P. Ramesh, executive engineer from Kozhikode Corporation, who spoke at length about the importance of morning walks.

The event was graced by the presence of Mr. Prasanth Kumar, General Manager (HR & PR), Peekay Steels Castings (P) Ltd., Mr. PP Ramanathan, President of Niravu and Mr. Babu Parambathu, the coordinator at Niravu, our long term NGO partner who participated in the walk enthusiastically. Mr K Radhan from Achyuthan girls' high school closed the engrossing walk by congratulating the entire team and conveying his good wishes for the marathon.

This year the theme for the Marathon is ‘Eco-Friendly Kozhikode’. Being environmental friendly is a paramount issue and needs to be taken seriously. It is all about taking simple measures to protect Mother Earth so as to make this planet a better place for communities and generations to come.

Hence, creating awareness and taking measures is the way forward. It is this belief that IIM Kozhikode and Calicut Half Marathon wish to encourage.

People from all age groups came together for the event!

The marathon will start from the Calicut beach (in front of All India Radio office) on 25th February, 2018 at 5 AM and run till Shri Gujarathi Vidyalaya higher secondary school. The marathon features three categories, a 21 km half marathon, a 10 km mini-marathon - both of which are competitive races - and a 3 km “Dream Run”, a non‐competitive run featuring people from all walks of life.

We will be conducting two more lead up events in the city in the upcoming weeks. The cycle rally will take place on 11th February, 2018 while the flash mobs will be conducted at the beach and at Hi-Lite mall on 18th February, 2018.

Over the past eight years, the marathon has been taking up a unique cause every year - having focused on critical issues of women empowerment, rights of differently-abled people, waste management, organ donation and healthy living in the past.
