Samresh Jung beats Olympic medallist Vijay Kumar to gold at National Shooting Championships

Samresh Jung took gold in the 25 meter standard pistol event at the 57th National Shooting Championship in Delhi yesterday. Vijay Kumar, who had bagged a silver at the London Olympics last year, had to settle for third place and bronze.

Representing the CISF, Samresh shot 576 to emerge comfortably on top. Silver was taken by Mahaveer Singh of Rajasthan who shot 569. Vijay, representing the Army, took bronze shooting 566.

In the junior category of the 25 meter standard pistol, Sunil Gurung of the Army won gold with 554 points, ONGC‘s Ajitesh Kaushal had 552 to take silver and Neeraj Kumar, again from the Army, won bronze with a score of 547.

2008 Olympics gold medallist Abhinav Bindra will be in action on Sunday.
