#1 Studious Boy

Anil Kumble had always been a bright student. Yes, not only cricket.. He excelled in studies too. He did his schoolimg from National High School in Bangalore and his graduation in mechanical Engineering from Rashtreeya Vidyalaya College of Engineering.

Surprisingly, he was an engineer and still didn’t let that engineer part become an obstacle in his cricketing career. He is one of the most educated players of all time.

#2 Raised and adored in Bangalore

Kumble knew what he had to do from the very beginning of his life. He had deep interest in cricket and joined the Young Cricketers club at a tender age of 13. He started playing cricket in the streets of Bengaluru and like any other Indian child, had the dream of playing for the country, but who knew this child would one day lead the national team.

Anil Kumble is honored by having a road named on himself in Bengaluru and is also a Padma Shri.

#3 Why Jumbo?

Fast and furious!

Kumble, more commonly known as ‘Jumbo’ was given this nickname because of the variations in bowling he could get out of any pitch, more importantly the bounce, therefore ‘Jumbo’

There are several theories regarding this though- some say he is called Jumbo not only because his deliveries were “as fast as a jumbo jet” but also because the teammates thought that he had a massive or ‘jumbo’ feet.

#4 Rare Record

We all know about anil Kumble taking 10 wickets in a test match, but a rare record that Jumbo holds even after his retirement is , that he has the maximum number of caught and bowled dismissals, which matches with another spin maestro, Muttiah Muralitharan from Sri Lanka. The no. Is 35 caught and bowled wickets.

Overall Kumble has a record of 619 wickets in test matches under his belt.

#5 Fast Bowler once?

Mr. Jumbo had started off as a fast bowler which helped him earn his flipper which he was famous for! Who knew that a pace bowler could turn into one of the greatest spinners of all time and become 1 out of the 4 bowlers in the world to take 5 wickets in a Test innings more than 30 times. That number is huge than it sounds.
