Top 10 important players who remained unsold at IPL 2014 auctions

The much awaited IPL auction is over. Rs 463.15 crores have been spent by the franchisees to fetch their desired cricketers. Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh went to Royal Challengers Bangalore for a whopping price of Rs. 14 crore, highest value of any player in the IPL this year. This year's auction saw many uncapped promising players being selected by different franchisees. Unfortunately, many important names were neglected in auctions and the cricketers remained unsold. Thus the unsold cricketers will not feature in this edition of the Indian Premier League. The list of unsold players is quite long and it includes some noteworthy names who themselves could have formed a formidable T20 side. Here's an XI consisting of the top players who missed out: *Note: Sri Lankan cricketers will not available for majority part of the tournament.

#1 Tillakaratne Dilshan

One of the best in the business currently, Tillakaratne Dilshan had featured in all the previous editions of IPL. He initially played for the Delhi Daredevils and later joined Royal Challengers Bangalore. Dilshan had scored 1153 runs in 52 matches in IPL with strike rate of 114.49. The Sri Lankan is also handy with the ball. He is a genuine match winner and an able opener. Dishan undoubtedly would have been an asset to any team.

#2 Mahela Jayawardene

Ex-Sri Lankan captain also featured in all the previous editions of the Indian Premier League. Initially he was a part of the Kings XI Punjab franchise. Later he was bought by the Delhi Daredevils. Mahela had scored 1802 runs in 80 matches with a strike rate of 123.25. Capable of winning matches single handedly, Jayawardene could have been a decisive buy for any of the franchisees.

#3 David Hussey

Just like his brother Michael Hussey, David Hussey too is an exceptional T20 cricketer. He is a hard hitter, a genuine match winner and is a blend of amazing all-round abilities. Hussey had scored 1206 runs in 59 matches. Hussey has played most number t2o matches just after Brad Hodge. In 230 T20 games, the Australian has scored 5503 runs with a strike rate of 133.92. In IPL heinitially played for Kolkata Knight Riders and later joined Kings XI Punajab. He is one the best batsman in the world of the shortest format of the game.

#4 Subramaniam Badrinath

This veteran Indian batsman was an integral part of the Chennai Super Kings team for the past 6 years. He had performed commendably for CSK scoring 1441 runs in 95 matches and had saved the team from several crisis situations. Known for his impeccable technique, Badrinath has tons of runs in Indian domestic cricket.

#5 Azhar Mahmood

Azhar Mahmood is a veteran all-rounder who has played t20 cricket in almost all the major leagues in the world. He is capable of winning crucial tiesfor his team be it with bat or ball. He had featured in last 2 editions of the IPL for Kings XI Punjab. He scored 382 runs and took 29 wickets playing 22 games.

#6 Cameron White

Cameron White was a part of the IPL winning Deccan Chargers team in 2011. A prolific run scorer in this format of the game, White could have been a very good buy for any of the franchises. He had also led the Australian T20 international side for quite some time. He is an experienced batsman and a brilliant fielder.

#7 Marlon Samuels

Marlon Samuels made his debut in IPL for Pune Warriors India in 2012. The West Indian all-rounder performed decently in the inaugural edition scoring runs and picking up crucial wickets. He is a handy all-rounder with impressive fielding skills too. Samuels had scored 132 runs in 10 matches and took 9 wickets.

#8 Angelo Mathews

Angelo Mathews is considered to be one of the best all-rounders in the world currently. He is extremely useful especially in the shorter format format of the game. He is a great finisher of the game and holds the capability of winning matches for his team. Mathews is currently the captain of the Sri Lankan ODI and Test team and also lead the team in T20 format. His IPL performance had also been commendable. In 35 matches he scored 548 runs and took 20 wickets.

#9 Alex Hales

This talented young batsmen from England remained unsold at the IPL 7 auctions. The main reason for him being not selected by any of the franchises might be his recent poor form. An otherwise attacking batsman worth investing in, he failed to perform in the ODI series against Australia and also his performance has been below par at the Big Bash league. For Adelaide Strikers, in the past seven matches, Hales scored 126 runs. Alex Hales has so far played 95 T20 matches in his career scoring 2562.

#10 Brett Lee

Brett Lee, the veteran Aussie bowler had been a part of the Indian Premier League from its beginning. Initially he was a part of the Kings XI Punjab franchise, later he joined Kolkata Knight Riders. He played 38 matches in total in the IPL and took 25 matches. Lee remained unsold at the IPL 7 auctions because of his recent poor form. Also his persistent injury scares might have been a major reason for himbeing not selected by any of the teams. In the last 8 BBL matches, Lee has only taken 4 wickets.
