Hunter Dickinson and Jett Howard led the way in Monday's win, combining for 43 points. Dickinson had 12 boards to go with his team-leading 22 points. The big man is expected to be not only one of the best players in the Big Ten but in the entire country as well. Howard is the clear-cut second option, and then the Wolverines have solid options rounding out the starting lineup. The only trouble that Michigan might run into is if they become too dependent on Dickinson and Howard or if one of them has an off-night. Dickinson is now a junior, and he's led the Wolverines in scoring every season since he's been a freshman, and he's likely to make it three years in a row. Michigan's defense held Purdue FW to under 30% from the field, and a lot of their success starts on this end of the floor.
Eastern Michigan beat Division II school Wayne State previously, and now they won't have to travel far to Ann Arbor, where they have a tough matchup ahead of them. The Eagles only won by nine, but contributions from freshman Orlando Lovejoy and Jalin Billingsley were key in the victory. Noah Farrakhan was the Eagles' leading scorer a season ago, and he also chipped in with 12 points. Farrakhan, together with Lovejoy, make for a decent backcourt that should be able to compete with teams on most nights. Against Michigan on the road, it won't be easy, but they'll look to their guards to have big nights to potentially pull off an upset.
