Fresno State vs. Boise State Prediction, Odds, Line, Spread, and Picks - December 3 | 2022 NCAA Football Season

San Diego State v Boise State
San Diego State v Boise State - QB Taylen Green has been more than anyone could of imagined for the Broncos this season.

On Saturday, the Boise State Broncos (9-3) will host the Fresno State Bulldogs (8-4) at the Albertsons Stadium in a Mountain West Title game.

Boise finished a perfect 8-0 in the conference, winning the MW West by two games over Wyoming. Their lone home loss came against the BYU Cougars 31-28 in a late-season non-conference matchup.

The Broncos have won three straight, freshly off a 42-23 home win over Utah State. After a scoreless first quarter, Boise's offense came alive with three unanswered touchdowns in the second frame.

Utah State brought it within four and had a chance to take the lead in the final minute, but QB Cooper Legas threw an interception on the Boise 14-yard line. Broncos QB Taylen Green ran for a 91-yard touchdown two plays later, effectively sealing the win.

Green finished 14-of-23 passing for 220 yards and four scores, with 91 rushing yards and another score. He has started 11 games this season after stepping in for two-year starter Hank Bachmeier after the ladder surprisingly transferred after four games.

Fresno State also won their side of the conference by two games. They won the West by Week 13 and shut down Wyoming 30-0 last week for good measure. Riding a six-game winning streak, Wyoming was no match for the white-hot Fresno State.

Running back Jordan Mims tallied three rushing touchdowns, running his season total to 15. Quarterback Jake Haener, who missed nearly a month with an injury, continued to build upon a solid NFL resume, throwing his 17th touchdown to breakout WR Nikko Remigio. Haener has thrown 65 touchdowns against ten picks in 27 career games at Fresno.

Tale of the Tape

Boise State was at a crossroads after a Week 4 loss at UTEP. The Broncos were sitting at a meager 2-2, and their senior quarterback had unceremoniously jumped into the transfer portal. Enter Taylen Green. After a subpar passing performance in his season debut against SDSU, he has blossomed into a budding star for Andy Avalos' squad. The redshirt freshman owns a 3:1 TD-to-INT ratio and has run for eight scores on 7.2 yards per carry while leading the Mountain West in adjusted passing yards per attempt. Green's dual-threat ability helps elevate an already legitimate rushing offense. Boise is in the top three in the conference in rushing yards per game (190), rushing touchdowns per game (2), and yards per carry (4.9).

Defensively, Boise is as good as they come. They are top ten in all the FBS in yards per game allowed (284.6) and yards per play (4.7). The secondary has been elite, holding opposing passers to a 50% completion percentage. Although they shut down Fresno already once before, it was when the Bulldogs were absent star QB Jake Haener.

The last time Fresno State went 7-1 and played Boise State in the MWC Championship game was in 2018 under Jeff Tedford. After a two-year hiatus, Tedford is back and again in the same situation he was in during the 2018 season. The Bulldogs have one of the best passing attacks in the game, featuring a trio of Jake Haener, WRs Nikko Remigio, and WR Jalen Cropper. Haener would have the best passer efficiency rating in the MW if he qualified, Cropper leads the conference in receptions, and Remigio has five scores on the year. Although they have the best air offense in the conference, their rushing attack has been subpar in comparison. Nevertheless, they hold the best marks in yards per game and yards per play.

The Bulldogs' defense is a stingy unit against opposing passers, holding them to 194 yards per game on 53% passing completion. Unfortunately, the front seven isn't as impressive, allowing 4.4 yards per rush attempt, the third-worst mark in the MWC. But overall, Fresno State does an admirable job playing defense, as evident by their shutout of Wyoming last week.

Fresno State vs. Boise State Prediction

Fresno State and Jake Haener are a wagon, but Taylen Green and the Broncos have been playing great ball of late. Green entered the season as a backup and has now become a household name in Idaho.

What's lost with all the offensive firepower between these two teams is the defensive prowess that will be on display in this matchup. Neither team is friendly to passers and can make life difficult for opposing offenses.

With the way each defense is playing headed into Sunday, points may become harder to come by than usual.

Prediction: Under 54.5 (-105)
