Michigan State Spartans vs Gonzaga Bulldogs Key Stats

The Michigan State Spartans had a solid game as they have a great backcourt in Tyson Walker and A.J. Hoggard who both finished last year with an assist rate inside of the top-15. They have incredible talent in the backcourt, but their frontcourt is a little questionable as they do not have big-man talent this season on their roster. Senior forward Joey Hauser finished their opening game with 18 points, 10 rebounds, and one assist in 31 minutes.

Defensively, they are giving up 55 points per game and this Tom Izzo team should be able to coach this incomplete roster to a good season. Michigan State forced 13 turnovers but allowed 12 offensive rebounds in the game against a completely lesser program.

Gonzaga is one of the best college basketball programs over the last few years and it helps to have a dominant player that you can rely on like senior forward Drew Timme as he finished the season opener with 22 points, two rebounds, two assists, one block, and three steals in 29 minutes. As a team, they scored 104 points on 63.2 percent shooting.

Their defense is going to have to step up more as when you give up 40 points in the second half to North Florida, there are some questions that pop up. The Bulldogs finished with 22 forced turnovers and 15 steals while limiting them to just a 35.6 shooting percentage in the game.

Michigan State Spartans vs Gonzaga Bulldogs Best Picks and Prediction

Gonzaga is clearly the more talented program and look like they are going to dominate offensively this season. The Spartans do not have much frontcourt talent to limit with Timme is able to do with the ball in his hands as he will dominate both sides of the floor.

The Bulldogs are also 4-0-1 ATS in their last five games after scoring 100+ points so they should be in the driver's seat here.

Pick: Gonzaga Bulldogs -11.5 (-110)
