Blake Griffin Watch: Dunk of the Year on Pau Gasol?

Its folly to term any of Blake Griffin’s dunks as Dunk of the Year, because he will just top himself the very next day. Or sometimes in the very same game. You also can’t say that Blake has taken away the manhood of a player anymore, because if he took it away already, he can’t do it again a few minutes later.

Last year, Blake made Mozgov a verb. This year it was Perkins. Mozgov was grateful to Perkins for replacing his name as a poster child. And now Perkins can breath easy as Pau Gasol has replaced him by being on the receiving ends of a double dose of dunks from Blake Griffin in one night.Check this out:

He actually finished that play.

The best part about a dunk is the reaction it elicits from the crowd. You know a dunk is great if the roof goes off. Another way of knowing that is when your teammates go wild.Check out the reaction from rest of the LA team:

Number 17, bottom right, looks especially stoked for his teammate.Ok wait, that’s Andrew Bynum, Gasol’s teammate.

When a teammate from the opposing team goes wild for you dunking on his teammate, that’s when you know your dunk is something special. Look at him:

Looks like a kid who’s been given a free lifetime supply of candy.

If this was 24 News Channel, they would be showing replays of that clip on loop. Not just for the dunk, for the momentary betrayal by Bynum.

By the way, this was the second time that night that Blake destroyed Gasol. Here’s what he did for the first one:

RIP Pau. You will be missed.

The Clippers lost a close one, 113-108. Blake Griffin had 15 points and 14 rebounds and Chris Paul chipped in with 22 points and 16 assists. But it wasn’t enough to overcome the 31 by Kobe Bryant and 36 by Andrew Bynum. Blake still has some ways to go to becoming a better defender down low, neither him nor DeAndre Jordan had any answer for big man Bynum.

The Clippers play the Sacramento Kings tomorrow at 7:30 AM India time. That should be a easy one for the Clippers, as the Kings are just 19-35 this season. The Clippers stand at 32-22, which looks good but in a Western Conference like this year’s one, there is no breathing room. The 8th spot is held by the Denver Nuggets with a record of 29-25. A few bad games by one team and a winning streak by another and you are out of the playoffs.

The season is drawing to a close, the Clippers need to man down the fort and improve on defense to get a proper standing in the postseason.
