What's the story?

There has been a lot of buzz encircling the Commonwealth Games Village at Gold Coast ever since the Commonwealth Games Federation(CGF) embarked on an investigation following the discovery of syringes near the rooms housing members of the Indian contingent.

However, the recent news is that the syringe has been discovered in the common lobby near the boxing floor and not in any particular room as opposed to prior conceptions, Sportskeeda has learnt.

In case you didn't know...

Following the upsetting discovery, Chief Executive of CGF, David Grevemberg was determined to reach a conclusion 'expediently' before the Games began on the 4th of this month.

According to the anti-doping rules laid down by the CGF, a no-needles policy applies to all the athletes for the entire Games duration, unless otherwise declared. Going against these rules could prove catastrophic for the athlete as well as his nation competing in such a big ticket multi sporting event.

The heart of the matter

The CWG had issued this investigation after they got a tip-off from a cleaner who came across these syringes suppsoedly. Now, after further enquiry it has come to surface that the syringes were not discovered in any particular room belonging to an athlete.

It was dispatched in the common lobby of the floor which houses the boxers from the Indian contingent. These new facts make it difficult to reach a fast resolution and narrow the investigation, at least.

What's next?

Now that the investigation has turned around and broadened with the syringe getting discovered in the common lobby, it will now be difficult to point fingers at any one person any time soon.

But with diligent investigation, true light will be shed on the entire matter.

Author's take

It is very disheartening to see the Indian boxing contingent being put under so much scrutiny and speculation right before the Commonwealth Games is to start. This is the time when the players require all the love, support and motivation from the nation. For their sake, we hope that the investigation reaches it's conclusion swiftly and this cloud of suspense is done away with at the earliest.
