Drogba misses a penalty as Zambia win ACN

Both teams were locked goalless after regulation and extra-time. Chelsea FC star Didier Drogba missed a penalty in regulation time and wasted a golden opportunity to put his side on the winning path. The final had to go into a deciding penalty shoot-out and Zambia kept their cool, while Cote d’Ivoire missed two spot kicks. Kolo Toure and Gervinho failed to convert their penalties and Stoppila Sunzu fired it home for the “Chipolopolo”. Zambia won the shoot-out 8-7. Zambia, ranked 71st in the FIFA World Rankings did already exceed all expectations by getting into the final. The “Chipolopolo” reached the final in 1974 and 1994, but failed to win the trophy in those years. The Zambian team coached by Frenchman Herve Renard held a camp in India as part of their CAF Africa Cup of Nations preparations and won two friendly matches against a GOA XI (4-1) and the Indian national team (5-0).
