In a bid to provide their players with some crucial international exposure ahead of the 2011-12 I-League, East Bengal will skip the Durand Cup in October and participate in the Binh Duong Television Cup instead.

“It’s really painful that we will not be able to compete in Durand Cup this year. We were really keen to play in Durand Cup but at the same time, giving an international exposure was also necessary,” East Bengal football secretary Santosh Bhattacharya said.
This is a good move by the club as they will be able to provide their players with international exposure, something which might be able to give them an edge over the other clubs in India.
