Manchester City and Tottenham playout a dull 0-0 draw

In the season opener of the English Premier League, Tottenham hosted Manchester City at White Hart Lane. This match had its fair share of expectation after the two team had battled it out for the Chamions League spot last season. But this game between Tottenham and Manchester City was not a shadow of the expectations.

Somebody has said it right, a game without goals isn’t football.

Manchester City boasted of a dream line-up and many calling it a world XI of sorts, the visitors fell bottoms and pits below expectations. Carlos Tevez started as was expected up front, with Yaya Toure and David Silva in the midfield. Emanuel Adebayor made a late entry into the game as a substitute, hardly having any time to make an impact.

Tottenham looked to be the better team on the pitch but seemed to be suffering from early season weariness. Joe Hart of Manchester City was forced into making some needy saves especially of a volley from just outside the box. Defoe up front looked lack lustre and Peter Crouch was rightly replaced by Robbie Keane in the latter part of the second half.

Both Robert Mancini (Manchester City) and Harry Redknapp (Tottenham) would have been disappointed at the result. Both Tottenham and Manchester City have big aspirations for this seasons as they look to secure/consolidate their place in the Top four.

Roman Pavlyuchenko and Adma Johnson were other transfers made in the second half. The game lacked chances but some skill and pace was to be seen on the flanks. Aaron Lennon looked typically threatening for Tottenham.

David Silva for Manchester City made some deadly balls but not many of these were turned into shots on target. Yaya Toure also made some stumbling runs in the middle of the pitch but he was pordinary.

The question that will be asked after such a performance from Manchester City will be whether some of these players were overrated?

Meanwhile Tottenham and Manchester City will both take a point home from this game!
