Who says Indian Football cannot be entertaining?
With the final round of the I-League this weekend, 4 teams battle it out for survival in the India’s top football League.
Air-India, Mumbai FC, Sporting Club de Goa and Shillong Lajong would be the most talked about teams. Two of these four teams will be relegated from the I-League after this weekend. With 24 points, Sporting Club de Goa are at the bottom of the table, will play Chirag United in Kolkata. Only a win for the Goan side can keep them in the league provided Mumbai FC and Shillong Lajong lose their final round game. Air-India have the brightest chance to avoid relegation. With 28 points, the Airmen take on Churchill Brothers (currently 3rd in the table) in Goa.
Mumbai FC and Shillong Lajong, both with 26 points will be playing Mohun Bagan and Salgaocar SC in Mumbai and Goa respectively. Mumbai FC would just have to match the result of Lajong, as they have a better head to head result against both the northeastern club as well as Sporting.
With Mahindra United stepping out, and 2 Mumbai based teams still fighting to avoid relegation, the final round would decide what would be in store for the football fans in the economic capital. As of now, only ONGC, the newly promoted Mumbai team is assured in the 2010-2011 I-League.
