Spanish Supercopa : Sevilla overcomes Barcelona

16 Aug 2010, 13:00 IST

Sevilla claimed the initial honours in the first leg tie of the two legged supercopa match at  the Ramon Sanchej Pizjuan stadium in Sevilla . Ibrahimovic struck first as the visitors raced to a 1-0 lead before two goals from Sevilla striker Frederic Kanoute and a goal by the in demand Luis Fabiano condemning Barcelona to a defeat . With the second leg tie to be played this Saturday at Nou camp , Guardiola would be desperate to field a full strength squad in order to overcome the deficit and win the trophy .

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been the subject of huge speculations this summer and with the arrival of David Villa , it looked almost certain that he would be shifting base from Nou camp . And he further intensified the rumours by publicly stating his interest to play in the English premier league . But on Saturday he was completely at ease with his teammates and dished out some good soccer as he slotted home the first goal past the Sevilla keeper to give Barca a 1-0 lead going into half time . However the second half produces a completely different picture . With Ibra substituted for Messi , the going got tough for the Catalan side who were without their world cup stars who had been granted rest by the coach . Luis Fabiano , another subject of hot speculations pulled Sevilla back with a cool finish past the Barca keeper in the 61st minute . Finally it was left to the veteran striker Frederick Kanoute who converted a  pass from fellow substitute Alvaro Negredo in the 72nd minute, and then headed in the third goal in the 82nd minute from a cross by Diego Perotti.

The second match promises to be an absolute entertainer with both sides likely to field full strength squads . And all is not ever for the invicible Barcelona team who has the strength to overcome a two goal deficit .
