Have been waiting to give my take on the TNA – WWE rivalry since an eternity now and here it is…
I am sorry to say to all the TNA fans out there (all five-six of you) that with the decisions Dixie Carter’s company is making, WWE can continue delivering average shows and still get a better audience.
Again, before you read further, this article is my opinion. If you differ, I am open to discussions.
Many people consider Carter’s decision to sign the washed out Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff as the beginning of the downfall of the company. And, unlike those many, I don’t dislike Bischoff. Personally, I think a man who can think about a phenomenon as great as the Elimination Chamber, has to possess one of the greatest wrestling minds. In TNA, he is possibly being overshadowed by Hogan. The company needs to let Hogan go (yes, they must) and let Bischoff run it. Nobody wants to see a WCW sequel, knowing what happened of the franchise.
Ever since Hogan and Bischoff started pulling the strings, along with a mindless creative team, wrestling’s greatest has-beens have been getting more limelight than the TNA originals (Styles, Samoa Joe, former star Christopher Daniels to name a few). I wonder how many of us really wanted to see a 60-year-old Ric Flair comeback to in-ring action after having that splendid battle against Shawn Michaels at Wrestlemania 24 that retired the Nature Boy. Talking about sendoffs, I thought Michaels deserved a better one.
TNA simply haven’t been doing much that is worth discussing. I am a die-hard WWE fan, but did develop a liking for the competition especially after viewing their X-division in action. Sadly, today the X-division is non-existent and you have wrestlers like Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, Sting, X-Pac (or whatever he’s called), Flair, Nasty Boys (?), etc., hogging the limelight.
I also read somewhere that TNA are planning to make AJ Styles the next Flair… WHY? The man who was once being considered the next big thing in wrestling will now be the next dirtiest player in the game?
Another major reason why TNA look doomed is Hogan’s decision to chuck out the six-sided ring in favor of the traditional four-sided format. Yes, it makes the product compete on level terms with the WWE, but why remove the one thing that differentiates you from others?
I remember the Michaels-Bret Hart iron man match that was possibly the purest wrestling I’ve seen in my short life so far, heck I do keep going back to it on youtube till date. When was the last time we saw something close to that in the Impact zone? Longer story-lines, shorter matches don’t work for me.
WWE chairman Vince McMahon knows what keeps things rolling in the business… what keeps his company in the public interest – Possibly a reason why John Cena has never turned heel… and who knows, for all the bad things he is doing to TNA, Hogan might well be getting paid by Vince for all his doings.
