Washington Betting Laws & Guide

While Washington has legalized sports betting, it’s not the best out there. The state’s law restricted betting sites and mobile betting, making it inconvenient for many residents to wager in their home state.

Is Sports Betting Legal in Washington?

Yes, Washington allows legal betting, however it is limited to their tribal casinos. This includes mobile betting, which is legal but only on tribal land. None of the tribes have mobile sportsbooks yet, and it’s uncertain if they ever will considering you have to physically be at a casino to place a bet. Washington is one of many states that banned betting on in-state colleges, so Washington and Washington State football is off limits. The only casino currently accepting bets is the Snoqualmie Casino.

Is DraftKings Sports Betting Legal in Washington?

No, DraftKings isn’t a viable option to place sports bets in Washington at the moment. Washington is also one of the states that DraftKings daily fantasy sports do not accept any entries from. If you’re looking to use DraftKings for any reason, traveling to Oregon or crossing the border into Canada are your best bets to do so legally.

Why is Sports Betting Illegal in Washington?

Sports betting technically is legal in Washington, there just aren’t many ways to place sports bets. It remains to be seen if any other casinos will begin offering sports betting, or if any of them will launch apps. There are 30 casinos run by 24 different tribes, so only one offering sports betting is a tad disappointing.

When Will Washington Sports Betting Start?

Sports betting is live in Washington, with the Snoqualmie Casino accepting the state’s first legal sports wager on September 9, 2021. Snoqualmie, Washington, isn’t too far from Seattle or Tacoma, two of the state’s biggest cities. As the only place taking sports bets, it helps to at least be near a bulk of the population, although anyone in Spokane isn’t as fortunate. Until sports betting expands in some way in Washington, it won’t be as profitable as it could be potentially, for customers or sportsbooks.
