The Day 1 of the 63rd Senior National Squash Championship was graced with the esteemed presence of the chief guest Shri. Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan – Honourable Minister of Forest, Environment, Transport, Sports & Cinema, Kerala. The other honored Chief Guests includes – Shri D.Sarangi IAS (Rtd), President SRFI, Former Chief Secretary to Gov.t of Tamil Nadu, Jiji Thomson – IAS, Chief Secretary to Govt. of Kerala, Padmini Thomas- President Kerala Sports Council, S.Anantha Krishnan- IPS, Additional Director General of Police.

Shri D.Sarangi quoted, “Will take necessary steps to send quality coaches to Kerala for the empowerment and promotion of the game.”

Adarsh Jawahar Janard

Among 30 players from Kerala Adarsh Jawahar Janard and Rohith Kainikkara made it to Round 3 of the qualifying event before falling to the regulars Pragun Khemka and Maninder Pal Singh Sandhu.

Adarsh learnt to hold the Squash racket just 3 months back and he thanked his coach and parents for their support. He said, “I am happy to reach Round 3 in the qualifying, it was nice to see different personalities and overall it was a good experience.”

Rohith Kainikkara expressed, “This event has given me great exposure and couple of wins means a lot to me.” His coaches Shafi and Sanal were alongside looked satisfied with Rohith’s performance.

Qualifying matches witnessed 154 ambitious players vying for a spot in the main draw. Players from J&K and Manipur traveled 4 nights to reach Trivandrum. Maninder Pal Singh Sandhu (Younger brother of the defending Men’s National Champion – Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu) will be eyeing to reach the main draw once again along with Delhi’s Rishi Jalan, Naveen Jangra and Mudit Pant in their respective groups.
