ISA felicitates medal winners and promising players of 2012

The Indian Squash Academy (ISA) today felicitated the ISA medal winners (top 3) of the Junior National Championship Squash Championship that was held at The Cricket Club of India, Mumbai from 30 October – 4 November 2012.

A total of 10 medals were won by ISA trainees of which 5 players were crowned National Champion in the 10 junior categories. Among the awardees were Asian Junior Champions Anaka Alankamony and Kush Kumar.

S. Samita, seeded #2 in the girls U-11, upset Megha Bhatia to win her maiden crown. Likewise, budding junior S. Navaneeth Prabhu won the Boys U-11, defeating higher ranked opponents Advait Adik and top seed Yash Fadte. The other outstanding achievement was when Velavan Senthilkumar, seeded #2 in the boys U-15, won the title.

In the newly instituted ISA annual performance awards, Anaka Alankamony and Kush Kumar were also named ISA Player of the Year Female and Male.

Anaka this year won her 2nd Asian Junior Title in Iran, finished 6th in the World Junior Championships and was a member of the Indian World Cup U-21 squad and India World Women’s Squad.

Kush Kumar won his maiden Asian Junior title (boys U-17) in Iran and played a pivotal role to ensure India won a bronze medal at the World Junior Men’s Championship held in Qatar in July 2012.

Ashita Pranaya Bhengra and Velavan Senthilkumar were given the “ISA Most Promising Player” award.

Throughout the year, both these players had shown outstanding performances in tournaments which impressed the selectors.

The ISA also took the opportunity to felicitate the Women’s World Team Championship squad that finished 5th at the World Championships held in Nimes, France in November 2012. The members of the team were Dipika Pallikal, Joshana Chinappa, Anaka Alankamony and Aparajitha Balamurukan

The Squash Rackets Federation of India President Mr. K. S. Sripathi presided over the function and handed the plaques to the awardees.
