Joshana Chinappa satisfied with the overall performance of the Indian team at the Asian Championships

The Indian Women Squash team put in a superb performance at the recently-concluded Asian Squash Championships in Chinese Taipei, entering the final en route to beating the top seeds Hong Kong in semis before losing to Malaysia in the final.

One of the key members of the team, Joshana Chinappa spoke to Sportskeeda about the win and the way forward for her.

1.Congratulations on the silver medal win at the Asian Championships. Do you look back at the event with satisfaction or is there disappointment lingering over a lost opportunity to win gold?

A: Thank you.! I think we had a great chance of winning gold. I thought I played well. But Delia(Arnold) was more consistent on the finals. Overall the team did well!

2.What was the discussion within the team before the semifinals against top seeds Hong Kong?

A:Dipika and I were determined to win our matches to beat Hong Kong and that was the plan.

3.Considering that this was your first event since the British Open in March, how happy are you with your own personal performance?

A:I played the world open too, prior to the team events.Happy with my game and the way things have been shaping up.

4.This was Akanksha Salunkhe’s second event with the senior team. What have you made of her so far?

A: Akanksha is upcoming jr who has had good results in the jr circuit. She is a hard-working and keen player, hopefully she will be around longer and go pro.

5.Just looking back a bit, last year, you defeated the then Number 1 Raneem El Welily in the opening round at the Doha Open. Can you talk us through a bit about that match?

A:I was keen on playing her and wasn't too nervous. I felt that my game just fell into place that match and managed to get the win!

6.Looking forward, what are your expectations for the remainder of the 6 months?

A: I hope to get stronger physically and remain injury free and be playing alongside the best!
