Saurav Ghosal withdraws from Hong Kong Open with foot injury

Saurav Ghosal was scheduled to play his second round match on Thursday

In a big blow to the Indian team’s chances at the upcoming WSF Men’s World Squash Team Championship, the India No. 1 Saurav Ghosal has suffered from a fatigue fracture in his right foot which prompted his withdrawal from the ongoing Hong Kong Open. The World No. 18 was due to play the top seed Mohamed Elshorbagy in the second round on Thursday.

Due to the injury, Ghosal will now not be able to spearhead the Indian team at the WSF Men’s World Squash Team Championship which is scheduled to be held in Cairo, Egypt from 12-18 December. The Squash Rackets Federation of India (SRFI) has already announced replacements for Ghosal and also for Mahesh Mangaonkar, who has opted out due to personal health issues.

World No. 209 Ravi Dixit and the 19-year-old Vijay Kumar Meena, both of whom are currently honing their skills in Malaysia, have been asked to join the team.

Ghosal, meanwhile, tweeted on Thursday that he will get a clearer picture of the extent of his injury after getting the scan reports.
