Squash: Indian girls lose in the quarters at World Junior Championships

SQUASH: STUDIOFEATURE 2001, Hamburg

Indian girls lost 0-2 however put up a spirited fight against fourth seeds Hong Kong in their quarter-final match at World Junior Women’s Team Championship in Wroclaw, Poland.

Harshit Kaur Jawanda played her best but was outwitted by Asian Junior Champion Ho Ka Po in straight games. Harshit tried to keep Ka Po behind her however often opened up the court for Ka Po to move her to all corners forcing the loose ball or error. Ka Po was fierce and volleyed brilliantly to keep Harshit at bay winning in 3 games.

Urwashi Joshi playing her first match in the team event did trouble Choi with her aggressive play. Choi, the Asian under-17 champion stayed patiently and waited for the errors from Urwashi to ensure the tie went to Hong Kong after another straight game victory.

Hong Kong will play Egypt in the semi-finals while India take on Canada in the 5/8 play-off tomorrow.
