WSF - World junior squash championship gets underway on Sunday

Peru’s Diego Elias and Egypt’s Habiba Mohamed, who had won the titles last year in Namibia have been given the pride of place in the seedings for the individual phase of the WSF – world junior squash championship commencing in Eindhoven on Sunday.

The hugely talented 18-year Elias is already 46th in the PSA ranking with three titles to boast in the professional circuit. In the girls’ section as per the seeding the last four is projected an all-Egyptian affair, reflecting the depth in the talent in this country.

As for India, only Sandeep Ramachandran has been seeded and he has been placed at 13/16. Except for Adya Advani and Harshit Kaur Jawanda in the girls’ section and Velavan Senthilkumar and Sandeep in the boys’ who have been given a bye in the first round, the rest of the Indians will take to the court for the first round matches.

The Indian team after the twenty-two hour journey did not waste time in going through a practice session soon after landing in Eindhoven. The championship’s opening ceremony will be gone through later in the night (IST) on Saturday.
