After qualifying for the finals in third place, William Shaner posted a score of 251.6 to post an Olympic record. His compatriot Lucas Kozeniesky, who came second in the qualifiers, finished sixth in the finals.

ROC's Vitalina Batsarashkina posted a score of 240.3 in the finals of the women's 10 metre air pistol to win the gold medal alongside posting an Olympic record. China's Jiang Ranxin, who created an Olympic record in the qualifiers, settled for a bronze.

After Naohisa Takato won the gold medal in the men's extra-lightweight category, Hifumi Abe carried forward Japan's momentum by grabbing the top honors in the half-lightweight category. He beat Georgia's Vazha Margvelashvii in the finals.

The 2019 World Military Games champion Ulugbek Rashitov beat second seed Bradly Sinden in the finals to take home the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. He created an upset when he defeated first seed Lee Dae-hoon in Round 16 and continued taking out big names, proving that his victory was no fluke.

Lee Kiefer has been active in the international fencing circuit for over 11 years but had to wait till 2021 to win an Olympic gold medal. In her third Olympics, the right-handed foil fencer won the finals after beating ROC's Inna Deriglazova with a score of 15-13.

After Daniel Jerent was suspended due to doping in the month of June, France nominated Romain Cannone to participate in the men's individual epee at the Tokyo Olympics. The move turned out to be a blessing in disguise as he beat reigning World Champion Gergely Siklosi in the finals.

Men's 67kg weightlifting - Chen Lijun helps China keep their clean sweep record in weightlifting

Chen Lijun won the third available gold medal in the men's 67kg category after lifting an Olympic Record total of 332 kg over snatch and clean & jerk. So far, three weight categories of weightlifting have been completed and China has taken home all the golds.
