Khelo India 2019, Table Tennis: Chinmaya and Anusha bag the honors in the U-17 category

Pune, Jan 18: Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh clinched gold in the singles boys' and girls' U-17 category respectively in Table Tennis at the Khelo India Youth Games 2019 at Shri Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex held at Pune.

In the boys' U 17 singles final, Chinmay Somaya (Mah) dominated over Yashansh (Del) leading by 3-0, but Yashansh fought back brilliantly in the fourth game. Trailing from a score of 2-6, Yashansh changed the gears and went to win the fourth game by 11-9. With two straight victories in next games, the scores were tied on 3-3 with the match entering in the decider game.

Yashansh lost his sting in the crucial decider game and could not recover from 0-6 points. Chinmay also was not in a mood to spare any chances and finished the game 11-3. Yashansh was beaten 5-11, 3-11, 6-11, 11-9, 11-5, 11-9, 3-11 in the final. The bronze medal was won by Dev Shroff (Mah) and Om Chetri Aadarsh (Del)

Anusha Kutumbale (MP) won the gold beating Diya Chitale (Mah) in U-17 girls' singles category quite comfortably. In this one-sided game, Anusha played seamlessly winning all the games on the trot. It was only in the second game where she faced some resistance from Diya but otherwise, it was Anusha all the way.

Anusha went on to win 4-0 with a scoreline of 11-3, 11-6, 11-1, 11-3. Diya settled for silver while Swastika Ghosh (Mah) and Anjali Rohilla (Hrn) won the bronze.

The U-21 boys' and girls' singles quarterfinals and semifinals were also held today. In girls' first semifinal Kaushani Nath (WB) beat the number one seed Srushti Helengadi (Mah), while the second semifinal was won by Surbhi Patwari (WB) beating here statemate Prapti Sen. The final faceoff is going to be between the two paddlers from West Bengal on Sunday.

Gujrat’s Manush Shah will face Anirban Ghosh (WB) on the other side of the table in the boys' U-21 singles final. Manush the number one seeded player beat Ronit Bhanuja (WB) in semifinal one, while Anirban ousted Parth Virmani (Del) in semifinal two. The finals will be played on Sunday.
