The Indian team continued their strong run at the Asian Table Tennis Championships on Saturday in the individual categories. After two historic bronze medals in the team events, the nation's paddlers are now assured of at least one more podium finish.
The medal was secured early in the day when the women's doubles duo of Ayhika Mukherjee and Sutirtha Mukherjee stormed their way into the semifinals, assuring themselves of a bronze medal. The Indians took down Korea's Cha Su Yong and Pak Su Gyong in straight games in a clinical performance.
Elsewhere, Indian's men's singles players also fared well, with Manush Shah and Manav Thakkar both making their way into the pre-quarterfinals. Shah needed only three games to book hai berth in the top 16, while Thakker had to work his way through a grueling match that went down to the wire.
On the women's singles end of things at the Asian Table Tennis Championships, Manika Batra was knocked out in the round of 16 by Japan's Harimoto Miwa, ending the nation's hope for a medal in this particular event.
