Another left handed paddler from China, Wang Nan completely dominated the 2000 Sydney games winning the gold against compatriot Li Ju in the final. She also won the silver in the 2008 Beijing Olympics where she lost to two-time Olympic gold medalist Zhang Yining in the final.

Wang Nan helped China dominate the sport after Deng Yaping’s retirement and she still remains one of the most popular sportspersons in China.

An undisputed superstar in China, Zhang Yining is like the Serena Williams of table tennis. Yining held the number 1 rank from 2003 to 2009, making her one of the most dominant paddlers in the history of the game.

4 Olympic gold medals, 10 World Championships and 4 World Cup wins in just 6 years shows how dominant Yining was in the league. Zhang married in October 2009 and has not played table tennis on the international circuit since then.
