Puneri Paltan Table Tennis handed second straight defeat by RP-SG Mavericks Kolkata
- The Puneri Paltan Table Tennis team failed to stand up to the challenge as they lost both games to RP-SG Mavericks Kolkata.
On Tuesday, RP-SG Mavericks were up against the Puneri Paltan Table Tennis team in the 6th tie of UTT season 3. After losing to the Goa Challengers 11 games to 4, Mavericks replicated the scoreline against Puneri Paltan, but this time, ended up winning.
Sweden's Matilda Ekholm and India's Sanil Shetty led the comeback of Maverick's, displaying some fine attacking skills.
The tie started with World no.25 Matilda's 3-0 win in the first Women's Singles match against Paltan's Sabine Winter. After putting up a good fight in the first game, which ended with a scoreline of 11-9, Sabine had no answers in the second and third game, scoring just 5 and 6 points respectively.
The second match was the Men's Singles which saw Germany's Benedikt Duda take on the Chinese Taipei player Chuang Chih Yuan. Chuang was expected to have it easy against the German. However, the German pulled off an upset, winning the match 2-1.
In the third game, Matilda and Sanil Shetty joined forces against the pair of Harmeet Desai and Sabine Winter in the mixed doubles match. Here too, the Mavericks pair got the better of Paltan, winning the match 2 games to 1.
The second Men Singles match had Paltan captain Harmeet Desai against Sanil Shetty. Here too, the Mavericks were the better side, as Sanil won 2-1, extending the winless run of Desai.
By now, the overall scoreline was 9-3 in favor of the Mavericks. This meant that the game was already over with one match to go.
The last game too ended up with a Mavericks win, making it a whitewash for them. Manika Batra took on Ayhika Mukherjee in the second Women's Singles. Ayhika somehow managed to avoid a 3-0 loss, as she held her nerves and got the golden point in the second game. Manika took away the match 2-1 with scores of 11-2, 10-11, 11-7.
Now, with 3 out of 5 ties done, Puneri Paltan Table Tennis has won 1 and lost 2.
