American actor Penn Badgley appeared on the CBS soap opera The Young and the Restless as Phillip Chancellor IV (also known as Chance). He portrayed the character from 2000 to 2001. Chance's role marked one of Badgley earliest appearances on daytime television, establishing a foundation for his long and successful acting career.

After Penn Badgley decided to depart from The Young and the Restless in 2001, Chance's character was briefly written out when Nina left with Phillip. Although the character was off-screen for several years, he returned to Genoa City as a mature Army veteran in 2009.

Later, when Ryan left Tricia to be with Victoria Newman, Nina and Chance moved to Los Angeles, marking an end to Badgley's tenure on the show.

After Badgley's exit from The Young and the Restless, Chance's character was written out for a short period of time. In 2009, when John Driscoll took over the role, Chance's character returned to Genoa City as a mature Army veteran.
