The No. 1 recruit in the Class of 2027, Kaleena Smith, has made some waves with her consistent performances on the court. The 5-foot-5 point guard, who will enter her junior year at Ontario Christian High School next season, was invited to the Adidas Eurocamp on Wednesday.
However, Smith shared the news about her not participating in the camp due to a concussion she suffered at OTE on her Instagram story on Sunday.
"To all the coaches and people reaching out I appreciate you," Kaleena Smith wrote. "Due to me suffering from a concussion this week at OTE, I will not be competing in Italy or Section 7. I am recovering well, and will be back soon. Thank you for your prayers."

The news comes after Smith was awarded the MVP at Team JuJu vs Team Johnson in the Army National Guard Next Up 5s, Atlanta, on Friday. The point guard recorded a double-double with 40 points to lead Team JuJu to an 80-64 win.
Furthermore, she also represented Team Seven Days 17U at the Hype Her Hoops Heat Check 2025 Tournament in May. She averaged 17.2 points, 1.6 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 0.2 blocks, 1.6 steals and converted 2.2 three-pointers per game.
Kaleena Smith, who is an undersized guard, claimed that she wanted to prove people wrong, in a conversation with The Next Hoops.
“I’m just trying to prove people wrong,” Smith said. “A lot of people see my height and say, ‘Oh, she’s too small, she won’t make it to college. She already hit her ceiling.’ So really just having that mindset around proving people wrong, whether it’s scoring or getting [my teammates] involved, I feel like I’m different from everyone else.”
She also stated that she played with boys before she started her high school basketball career.
“When I was younger, I mostly played against boys until I reached high school,” Smith said. “People would call me ‘Special,’ and my nickname was ‘K,’ so my family and my old coach put it together.”
