Kentucky signee Jasper Johnson appeared on "BBN Tonight" on Friday. In the interview, the five-star shooting guard answered questions about his recruitment and skills ahead of his upcoming season at Kentucky.
Recalling the first time he received a FaceTime call from Kentucky coach Mark Pope, Johnson narrated the interesting moment.
"That first FaceTime, I mean, I was looking at my phone," Johnson said (01:40). "I think I was on my way to an AAU tournament somewhere. A look at my phone. Didn't have the number saved, so didn't answer, you know. I didn't think too much about it. Then, he calls again. I don't know whose number this is, so not gonna answer.
"It takes me a long paragraph, and I called immediately, and he was in office, you know, moving all his stuff in, having a long day of travel and things like that. But ever since then, he's been up and helping."
Johnson also talked about what he brings to the Wildcats' table as a freshman next season.
"A person who can do anything that my coach asked me to do, you know, whether it's pass, score, facilitate, be a leader, just doing whatever I can to come in for my role as a freshman," Johnson said.
"Like coach Pope said, it's going to be a big learning curve for every freshman that come into the game. But I 'm just willing to work really hard and do whatever I can to impact the team and win games."
Johnson added that he can't wait for the season to start.
"We have guys that can do everything, from one through five and in all positions you can pass, shoot, score and defense. But I'm just really excited to see how we can put this thing together and get the season started."
Kentucky fans are looking forward to seeing excited the 6-foot-4 guard in action.
"KY Till I Die": Jasper Johnson's bold promise ignites Kentucky fans
In September, Jasper Johnson won over Big Blue Nation when he declared "KY Till I Die" during his announcement at Woodford County High in Illinois.
The phrase was inspired by a suggestion from Kentucky coach Mark Pope to say something that gets to the fans.
"I was thinking what I was gonna say but I didn’t really come up with anything," Johnson said. "But when I wanted to commit, it just came from the heart, just naturally came out."
The motto instantly resonated with BBN and has also turned into popular merchandise.
