The Inglewood Sentinels girls' high school basketball team went viral after posting a video of themselves and their coach dancing to Kendrick Lamar's song "tv off" from his latest album GNX. The video meant to hype their season got even more attention amid the popular "MUSTARD" meme, which came from Lamar singing the name of his producer "DJ Mustard," for over five seconds in the song.
Upon seeing the video, fans flooded the comment section with some directing their comments at Lamar's biggest rival, Drake, with who he has been in a music feud.
"Drake is like, please turn it off lol," a fan jested.
The Canadian rapper claimed Universal Music Group “conspired” to artificially boost Lamar's "Not Like Us" song on Spotify using bots. He even sued the label over it. In this context, a few fans jested some more.
"More bots!!!! Drake was right. 😭," one fan replied.
"According to Drake this is a room full of Spotify bots that are dancing, singing and listening to this song," another person noted.
Meanwhile, others were just enjoying the Inglewood Sentinels team and their coach having fun.
"This was too crazy and the coach went all the way off too??!!! I need to see the finished product," one commenter replied.
"I was not expecting Rick Carlisle to get in too 😂," another fan wrote.
"They went crazy🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥including Coach 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥," another user tweeted.
The Kendrick Lamar hit was from his newly released GNX project and it was heard during the USC vs. Notre Dame game last weekend. The song was also the source of the "MUSTARD!" meme.
Kendrick Lamar's collaborator reacts to viral Inglewood High School 'tv off' dance
The Inglewood Sentinels dance video was seen by millions of people. This included "DJ Hed," a frequent collaborator and friend of Kendrick Lamar, whose net worth is $140 million (according to Celebrity Net Worth). He was also responsible for the song the high school students were dancing to.
"C U L T U R E," he wrote in his tweet on Tuesday.
While known for working with music artists such as Lil Wayne and Lamar, DJ Hed has worked on radio and is a well-known part of the LA hip-hop scene.
As for the Sentinels, they have been on a losing streak in their past two games. They lost 31-41 to Wiseburn-Da Vinci High School on Saturday, and before that, suffered a 68-20 loss to St. Mary's Academy on Thursday. But Inglewood won in its Nov. 18 matchup against the University Wildcats 40-37.
