After Shareef O'Neal, who played for UCLA and LSU; Amirah O'Neal, who played for LSU and Texas Southern; and Shaqir O'Neal, who played for TSU, Me'Arah O'Neal became the fourth O'Neal kid to start her college career.

O’Neal went to Episcopal High in Dallas (Texas). She's ranked as the No. 31 overall prospect by the ESPN HoopGurlz recruiting rankings for the class of 2024. She was the third-best prospect in Texas for the 2024 recruiting class. She was also a part of the 2024 McDonald's All-American team and was invited to play in the 2024 Jordan Brand Classic Game.

Me'Arah, a 6-foot-4 forward, averaged 19.2 points, 11.8 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 2.5 steals, and 2.3 blocks per game as a senior last season. She led Episcopal to the SPC Class 4A state championship, the program's first state title in 36 years. O'Neal scored 28 points in a 66-54 win over Kinkaid to clinch the title.

O'Neal transferred to Episcopal from Crossroads School in Santa Monica, CA. She played 24 games during her freshman season, averaging 5.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 2.5 blocks per game.

In 2023, O'Neal played on the AAU Circuit for CyFair Elite and scored 7.8 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 1.7 assists in 19.8 minutes per contest.

While speaking with ESPN, O'Neal stated her reason for joining Coach Kelly Rae Finley's team.

"I went on the Florida visit, and I had a feeling that's where I belonged," said O'Neal while talking to ESPN. "And that I was going to be most successful if I went to go play at Florida."

"I felt like I connected with Coach Kelly more than I connected with any of the other schools that recruited me. She really cares about me not just on the court but off the court. That's important for me."

The Florida Gators women's basketball team finished the 2023-24 season with a 16-16 (5-11 in SEC) record.

At the start of the video, O'Neal was spotted talking to her teammates about the strenuous practice and that she was mic'd up by Bleacher Report. Her teammate was quick to spot the person recording both of them and pointed toward the camera (0:00–0:33)
