Aaliyah Chavez, a five-star recruit from Monterey High School in Lubbock, Texas, is widely regarded as one of the top point guards in Texas high school basketball. The 5-foot-11 athlete, born Nov. 20, 2006, to Andrea and Sonny Chavez, grew up fascinated by kids playing basketball at the park.

Her father, who runs a basketball coaching academy called "The Lab Certified LLC," initially didn't want her to pursue the sport. Determined, she asked him for $125 to take basketball lessons.

Chavez's persistence eventually won him over. He came up with a plan to address her request. According to Stephen Garcia of the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, her father devised an intense workout regimen, including wall sits, sprints and defensive slides.

The rising star has also collaborated with clothing brand "Underdog Streetwear."

"If I see someone that doubts me, then I'm gonna go harder," Chavez said last year. "That's just my mindset. Someone doesn't believe in me, I'm going to prove to them that I can do something, whatever it is. ... I think they kind of learned, like, she actually can do all this that we said she couldn't do."

In her junior year, Aaliyah Chavez became the first high school girl to author the SLAM Basketball Diary. Her favorite subject is mathematics, and she is currently taking Algebra 2. While her favorite class is reading, she noted that cooking is not something she enjoys.
