Yoo Yeon-seok and Chae Soo-bin discuss their When the Phone Rings experience

Discussing his role in the drama, Yoo Yeon-seok reflected on its unique blend of genres.

“The romance becomes stronger as the drama progresses. I received this script around the time I finished filming my previous work, A Day of Luck, and since I read the script while acting as a psychopath, I ended up focusing on the thriller aspect. It was only after meeting the production team that I was able to properly grasp the romantic elements." he said.

When discussing the significance of the project, Yoo Yeon-seok emphasized his commitment to taking on diverse roles. He explained that he deliberately chooses characters that differ from his previous ones, whether it means transitioning from a kind-hearted character to one who is cold or exploring entirely new professions.

He expressed a desire to keep viewers curious about his next moves, adding that even criticism questioning his choice of roles feels gratifying because it reflects audience engagement with his work.

Meanwhile, Chae Soo-bin shared her personal growth during the production.

“I was just having fun and enjoying acting, but then I suddenly felt scared of acting as if I had hit a wall. I got scared when I started seeing all sorts of criteria, including viewer ratings." she said.

However, Chae Soo-bin shared that When the Phone Rings felt particularly meaningful to her because she was able to prepare for the role without any distractions or concerns. She explained that this experience helped her realize the importance of staying focused on the present moment as the best approach.

Yoo Yeon-seok described Reply 1994 as a turning point in his career, with the scene of Chilbong-i pitching a winning ball remaining vivid in his memory. Similarly, Chae Soo-bin reflected on a defining moment from Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People, where her character boldly shouts at Gil-dong from a pole. She noted that some roles feel so immersive they linger as if she had lived them herself.
