On November 26, 2024, a Korean news outlet, Star News reported that Park Bo-young is confirmed to star in the new drama Goldland. The series would be under the direction of Kim Sung-hoon who is known for his work on Confidential Assignment (2017) starring the actor Hyun Bin.

Goldland revolves around the first domestic casino in South Korea. Park Bo-young will play Kim Hee-joo, a girl born into a poor family. The story involves Kim Joo's struggle to protect and preserve her hard-earned money and love while working at the casino.


Park Bo-young takes on a new challenge with Goldland

Goldland will present a new challenge for Park Bo-young with a murder-mystery genre. Unlike her previous roles in Strong Girl Bong-soon and Daily Dose of Sunshine, the actress will play a character from a poor and troubled family. She works hard to acquire independence from her family by working at Goldland Casino.

The series introduces romance as Kim Hee-joo (Park Bo-young) falls for a man while working at Goldland Casino. However, the plot takes a thrilling turn when she becomes entangled in an attempted murder case linked to mysterious gold bars. The story follows Kim Hee-joo's fight to protect her love and the money. Goldland Casino, South Korea's first domestic casino, plays a key role in the story, originally established to revitalize abandoned mining areas after the coal industry's decline.

Apart from Confidential Assignment, the director of the series, Park Sung-hoon has also led movie projects such as My Little Hero, Cooperation, Rampant, and the TV series Chief Detective 1958. Park Sung-hoo won the award for Best Director for Confidential Assignment at the Brilliant Korean Film Star Award in 2017.

The screenplay for the series was written by Hwang Jo-yoon who has given stories to many movies including, Sister is Coming, Masquerade, Memoir of a Murderer, and Rampant.

Lee Chang and Studio Dragon will be in charge of the production while an OTT arrangement is under discussion.


A booked and busy year for Park Bo-young

In 2006, the 34-year-old actress debuted with the television drama Secret Campus alongside The Heirs' Lee Min-ho. Since then she has been involved in various classic movies and series including Scandal Makers, Oh My Ghost, Strong Girl Bong-soon, Daily Dose of Sunshine, and more.

She has numerous awards under her name including Best New Actress and Most Popular Actress for Scandal Makers, Star of the Year (female) for Concrete Utopia. In 2024, she was awarded the Best New Actress award for the 2023 Netflix series Daily Dose of Sunshine. The series has also won the Best Drama award at the Blue Dragon Series Awards.

Currently, she has two ongoing projects under her belt including Melo Movie and Unknown Seoul. In the movie, Melo, Park plays the role of Mu-bee who enters into the film business of her complicated relationship with her father. She is working alongside various celebrated actors such as Choi Woo-sik, Lee Jun-young, and Jeon So-nee. In Unknown Seoul, she portrays twin sisters switched at birth.

Currently, she is promoting her upcoming drama Light Shop, premiering on Disney+ on December 4, 2024. Featuring actors like Ju Ji-hoo (Love Your Enemy) and Kim Seol-hyun, the drama is based on a webtoon. It is a fictional horror story about a store connecting the living and the dead through its lights.
