In The Accountant 2, actress Cynthia Addai-Robinson plays Marybeth Medina, the deputy director of the Treasury Department's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN). Her boss, Raymond King, is mysteriously killed while searching for a missing Salvadoran family, of whom he only has an old family photo.

Despite objecting to his illegal activities, Marybeth seeks Christian Wolff, aka The Accountant, for help in bringing King's murderers to justice. Through him, she learns that the Salvadoran family, consisting of a married couple and their son, emigrated from El Salvador to Los Angeles in search of a better life.

However, they became trapped in a human trafficking ring led by Burke. While the husband was killed, his autistic son, Alberto, was kidnapped and is held at Burke's prison camp in Juarez, Mexico. His wife escaped and became a savant assassin named Anaïs after a car crash erased her memory and gave her super-human combat skills.

Burke hires Anaïs to kill Medina through the contractor Batu, fearing that Medina's investigations may lead Anaïs to remember her past and the role he played in destroying her family. Thus, the amnesiac Anaïs tracks down Medina at King's house and stabs her.

Medina, however, is stopped from completing the job when she spots her old family photo, which jogs her memory to some extent. Christian and his brother, Braxton, arrive in time to save Medina and help Anaïs piece together parts of her old life.
