Melissa Barrera recently spoke to Inverse on April 18, 2024, and conveyed that she is open to joining the cast of Scary Movie, as the series is all set to make a comeback. She said:

"I always loved those movies. When I saw it announced, I was like, 'Oh, that would be fun. That would be so fun to do.'”

Barrera also talked about the “iconic cast,” in the previous parts of the franchise, as she said:

“They have the iconic cast that did it, so we’ll see what goes on with that. I’m just excited to see a new one. I have this thing of never saying never to anything. I’m very open to the opportunities that come.”

While the Scary Movies makers announced earlier this month that a franchise is already in the makes, they have not yet announced the names of the cast and other details. On the other hand, Melissa Barrera’s statement came a month after she was allegedly fired from Scream 7. As per Business Insider, the makers took the harsh step after she commented on the Israel-Gaza conflict.

However, as per Inverse, Barrera is in no mood to quit the horror genre, whether or not she gets a call for Scary Movie, as she would be seen working with Radio Silence, the team behind Scream V and Scream VI, for the movie Abigail, which has released in the country on April 19, 2024.

“I love physical roles”: More details revealed as Melissa Barrera shows interest in being cast in Scary Movie

As Melissa Barrera bid adieu to Scream, she showed her inclination towards being cast in Scary Movie, as she claimed that she loves to do such roles. In her interview, she stated that movies like Scream and Abigail have given her a “little taste of action.” She also claimed that doing these films has made her realize that she can also do movies like Wonder Woman and Tomb Raider.

Melissa Barrera said:

“I love physical roles. I’ve always felt that a Latino superhero would be very good at uniting the community.”

Born in 1990, the Mexican actress is best known for her roles in Siempre tuya Acapulco, Scream and Scream VI, Club de Cuervos, and In The Heights. While the actress started off her career with the Mexican reality show, La Academia in 2011, she was later cast in two TV shows, La Mujer De Judas and La Otra Cara Del Alma.

Melissa rose to fame after being cast in Scream. Due to certain disagreements, the makers decided to keep her out of Scream VII. Melissa Barrera can now be seen in cinemas as she portrays the role of Joey in Abigail, and will also be seen in The Collaboration as Maya.

As she actively took part in the Abigail promotions, she was continuously being asked about her firing from Scream. As per Variety, she responded to the questions by stating:

“That’s a very multilayered, very complicated thing to respond to. But I’ve been very, very grateful for the support of the fans. That was something that was very unexpected and I love them for it.”

While the fans and followers of Melissa had mixed reactions when the news became viral about the actress being dropped from the Scream franchise, the netizens now have a mixed reaction towards Melissa Barrera’s statement where she showed interest in being cast in Scary Movies.

At the moment, the actress has not responded to the comments of the masses. The makers of the movie also remain tight-lipped about the same.
