Recently, fans received some disappointing news regarding Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, stating that most of the film had been scrapped by Sony for "creative reasons." First reported by Jeff Sneider in his paid newsletter, The InSneider, he further commented that the movie won't be released until 2027 at the earliest now, certainly letting down the fans with the update.
However, the writer and producer of Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, Christopher Miller, debunked Sneider's claims on his X account. In a post, he stated that nothing has been scrapped and that the film is coming along well.
"Nothing has been scrapped. The reels are coming along nicely," said Miller via X.
Before Miller, the upcoming film's composer Daniel Pemberton debunked the claims on his X account as well. In a reply to a post about the same, Pemberton pointed out that some information on the internet could be inaccurate, indicating that Sneider's claims were false.
"Don’t really ever want to weigh in on this sort of stuff BUT would you ever believe there could sometimes be stuff on the internet that might not always be particularly accurate? Hmmmm…," Daniel said via X.
As of now, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse still does not have a date attached to it. The movie was originally set to come out in March 2024 but was delayed for unknown reasons back in 2023, following the release of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
Miles Morales' story to conclude in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse
While it's still unknown what the plot of Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse might be, the filmmakers have stated that Miles Morales' story, which started in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and carried on into Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, will receive a proper conclusion in the third film of the Oscar-winning franchise.
Talking to Entertainment Tonight on June 5, 2023, writer Chris Miller shed light on this matter:
"We always knew there was more to tell and that there's a lot to explore, but it wasn't until we were working on [Across the Spider-Verse] that we realized that this was the middle piece. So now, we actually have a proper plan and know what we're doing. At the time, we were just painting ourselves into a corner and trying to find a way out."
He continued that the third film would be the last one.
"But yeah, that's it for us. We're so tired," laughed Miller.
Exploring what the story of Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse might be
The climax of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse saw Miles Morales end up on Earth-42 instead of his universe, certainly complicating things for him. Discovering that his father died in this world and that Uncle Aaron is still alive, Miles also finds out that his alternate version is the Prowler as well, with the film teasing a battle between the two.
On the flip side, Gwen can be seen assembling a Spider-Band in order to go and find Miles and save him, but the movie ends on a cliffhanger, teasing what's to come. Seeing that this cliffhanger is integral to Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, fans can expect to see another multiversal trip, as Miles tries to make it back to his home in order to save his father.
