James Gunn has had enough of the speculations that The Batman Part II has been canceled because of the delay in the project. In his recent interview with Rolling Stone, published on Monday, June 16, 2025, the DC Studios' CEO talked about the future of the DC Universe when the conversation went to the anticipated Batman sequel.
Gunn explained that The Batman Part II is not canceled, and all these talks about delays and cancellations are false.
He said that director Matt Reeves is "slow" in his process of writing the script and called out fans who keep speculating, calling them "mean." James Gunn said:
"We don't have a script. Matt's slow. Let him take his time. Let him do what he's doing. God, people are mean. Let him do his thing, man."

It wasn't the first time Gunn addressed the issue. During an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly, published on June 10, he debunked the cancellation rumors, saying that they are supposed to see "that script shortly."
He explained that despite the stories to the contrary, what Reeves is doing is "still really important," and Batman star Robert Pattinson was still in Reeves' corner.
While there won't likely be any news until The Batman Part II script is finalized, the sequel has been given an October 1, 2027, release date after a year-long postponement.
James Gunn leaves a blunt message to Snyderverse fans trying to tank Superman
James Gunn's message toward DC fans doesn't end with Batman fans grumbling about the delays. The DC Studios CEO also left a blunt statement for Zack Snyder fans who started the chatter about boycotting his upcoming Superman movie.
On Threads, a fan shared a screenshot of a Reddit thread of an online movement from Snyder fans seeking supporters to negatively impact Gunn's upcoming film.
With less than a month until Gunn's Superman hit the movie theaters, the director responded on Threads, saying:
"lol I think we'll survive. I'm not sure eight people that listen to that guy (I'm going to go out on a limb and guess it's a guy) are going to impact the course of events."
Gunn elaborated on the issue in his interview with Rolling Stone, saying that he doesn't mind it and even said that "it's good."
Despite one of the actors in the movie, who the director was, "one of the top five in Superman," sharing their concerns about the bad press, James Gunn said not to worry. He explained:
"I said, 'First of all, you realize that the trailer came out and was 97, 98% positive. These people help us, because you don't want everything to seem 100% positive.'"
James Gunn also told Rolling Stone that "it's all right" if they have an opposing force once in a while. Superman is coming to cinemas on July 11, 2025, starring David Corenswet as the new Man of Steel.
Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Isabela Merced, and María Gabriela de Faría will also star in the movie.
Stay tuned for more news on the highly anticipated The Batman Part II movie and other upcoming movies from the DC universe as the year progresses.
