The movie follows Sydney Sweeney as Sister Cecilia, an American nun, who is transferred to a convent in the Italian countryside.

Sydney Sweeney in Immaculate

Sydney Sweeney is leading the cast as Sister Cecilia. Talking about her attachment to the project with Variety, she said:

“So the script has been around for 10 years — I auditioned for it when I was 16. And it was a very different draft. I called the writer, Andrew Lobel, and got the clean, original draft, then reworked it to fit who I am today, keeping a lot of the same themes and storylines.

"And one of the biggest ones that carried over was something innately in the project that, sadly, is still a topic of discussion today.”

In an interview with Hollywood Reporter, from 2022 when Euphoria season 2 was airing and social media was filled with memes of Sydney Sweeney‘s terrified expressions with fans claiming that she needed to make a horror feature, she said:

“I lalready had the script so I was really excited to see everybody’s reactions to Euphoria season two and everybody being like, ‘A horror film! Give us a horror film!' I was like, ‘Just you wait! I have something in store for you.’ I held onto it for a long time.”

Sweeney had initially auditioned for the project a decade ago, but the movie was never made.

After her success with Euphoria which brought her into the limelight, she decided to get into producing and bring back the movie alongside director Michael Mohan and writer Andrew Lobel.
