Fans expected Beyonce to be one of the iconic presences at the Met Gala 2024 after a huge hiatus of around eight years. However, they were disappointed once again as the Deja Vu singer didn't walk up those iconic stairs for the eighth consecutive year.

Beyonce used to be a regular at the MET Gala, and she made her debut appearance in 2008. The Cowboy Carter singer attended the event continuously for six years, from 2011 to 2016. Her last appearance was at the MET Gala 2016.

Fans expected Beyonce to finally attend the gala in 2024 owing to her recently released eighth studio album, Cowboy Carter. The 42-year-old promoted her album at several events, including a meet-and-greet event in Tokyo and the Super Bowl in February.

The 2024 MET Gala, themed "The Garden of Time," featured a host of celebrities, including Jennifer Lopez, Zendaya, Bad Bunny, and Chris Hemsworth. The event was sponsored by TikTok and Loewe and featured designer Jonathan Anderson and TikTok CEO Shou Chew as the honorary guests.

Looking back at Beyonce's Met Gala outfits

Beyonce debuted at the MET Gala in 2008 and was a regular from 2011 to 2016. However, the Renaissance artist has not attended the event for the last eight years. Here is a look back at all the iconic outfits worn by Queen Bey over the years.

Met Gala debut - 2008

Queen Bey debuted at the MET Gala in 2008, wearing a baby-pink Armani Prive gown featuring a sweetheart neckline. She accentuated her look with pink and emerald earrings and black shimmer in her eyes.

The look was completed with shiny pink lipstick that matched the color of her dress and earrings and a sparkling bow-shaped bag.

Return to the MET Gala - 2011

Beyonce returned to the MET Gala in 2011 after a two-year hiatus with an Emilio Pucci dress. Her second appearance at the iconic fashion extravaganza was a black embroidered dress with golden accents and a mermaid-esque silhouette.

Despite the dress's beauty, the fishtail end made it an ordeal for the 32-time Grammy winner to walk up the stairs. She finally had to be helped by contemporaries like Jay-Z and Ty Hunter to complete her walk.

Start of Givenchy partnership - 2012

2012 marked the debut year of the iconic Beyonce-Givenchy partnership at the MET Gala. The Renaissance singer pulled off the look at the last moment with her then-stylist Ty Hunter and wore a feather-covered black dress with a long violet trail.

In terms of makeup, Beyonce kept it simple with glossy lips, a hint of black liner for her eyes, and a ponytail with her hair pulled back to finish the look.

Earlier that year, Queen Bey had given birth to Blue Ivy and was busy rehearsing for The Mrs. Carter Show World Tour during the time of the gala. As reported by WWD, the Cowboy Carter singer decided to go to the event hours before the start.

Another Givenchy look - 2013

Queen Bey's 2013 look consisted of a black Givenchy gown with golden-orange patterns resembling the flames of a fire. The Cowboy Carter singer further highlighted her look with a black python belt and back gloves up to her elbows.

Accentuating the fiery dress was her black smokey eye makeup and her glossy nude lipstick. She also boasted long honey-colored locks with waves to finish the MET Gala 2013 look.

Givenchy Haute Couture look - 2014

At the 2014 MET Gala, Beyonce pulled off a Givenchy Haute Couture gown with a chic netted veil, a long train, and a beautiful pair of red-and-black earrings.

Additionally, Beyonce's lipstick shade was matched with the pearls of her earrings and her hair was pulled back to form a bun behind her netted veil. This was done to highlight the veil and make sure that the hair didn't tangle with it.

Swarovski crystal dress - 2015

An assorted sprinkling of Swarovski crystals and other precious stones covering the iconic Givenchy gown was the highlight of Beyonce's look at her penultimate appearance at the MET Gala in 2015.

The gown also featured a long bejeweled train and a back cutout. Despite it looking light, her stylist, Ty Hunter, revealed that it was one of the heaviest dresses she had ever worn.

Final appearance - 2016

Beyonce's final appearance, in 2016, at the MET Gala featured yet another set from the Givenchy collection: a latex gown with a whopping 2,000 precious pearls and beads sprinkled all over it.

The beaded latex dress boasted Victorian-esque puffed sleeves and a subtle trumpet shape. Beyonce's look was further accentuated by her handbag and contrasting eye makeup.
