Britney Spears revealed that her eyelashes, brows, and hair were singed off after a "scary" fire incident that involved an exploding fireplace earlier this year. The pop princess recalled the terrifying incident in an Instagram video on Monday, September 30, 2024.
Spears said that it happened six months ago, adding that it "just threw the whole thing in there" and blew into her face. She explained in a British accent:
"I was in my room and I turned the fire on and, all of a sudden, it blew up in my face. It's done it before, and the times it's done it before, I quit so I always get my security to come in and light it for me because I was so scared it was going to blow up."
The Criminal hitmaker added that the fire "took all [her] lashes off," including her eyebrows and some of her hair. She also showed off her baby hair or baby bangs, sharing that it's the remnants of the hair that the fire took off.
Britney Spears noted that the injury from the fire left her in pain
Elsewhere in Britney Spears' Instagram video, she pointed out that the incident left her in pain. She said that her "face was on fire" and she considered going to the emergency room. The singer added:
"It hurt to touch my phone. It hurt to put ice on my face. It hurt [to have] anything touch it."
The pop star recalled how the burning sensation in her face lasted for six to seven hours after the incident, adding that the pain was "so, so, so bad" and that it "never went away." Thankfully, Spears revealed that she was able to sleep after taking three Tylenol pills, which she said was a "really, big deal" compared to the "f**king Vicodin."
While Britney Spears assured her fans that she is all okay now, it wasn't her first brush with a fire incident. Last year, she opened up about accidentally starting a fire after lighting some candles in her home gym. She shared the remnants of the fire on Instagram in December 2023, showing off her two pieces of equipment and a one-sided mirror gym.
Britney Spears also mentioned in the Instagram post that no one got hurt in the incident. The pop princess wasn't disheartened much about the incident either, as she said that she prefers working out outdoors.
Britney Spears teases a "special project"
Fire incidents aside, Britney Spears teased about a "special project" in an Instagram post on August 31. She noted that it "isn't a biopic story," but a fictional musical.
Spears highlighted that she will be playing "an extremely intelligent character" in the project. The singer added that she will be working with director Jon Chu, whose credits include Step Up 2: The Streets, Crazy Rich Asians, Justin Bieber: Never Say Never concert movie, and the upcoming film adaptation of Wicked.
Britney Spears had previously shared a post on X on August 1, hinting at a "secret project" with producer Marc Platt. She wrote:
"Excited to share with my fans that I've been working on a secret project with #MarcPlatt. He’s always made my favorite movies. Stay tuned"
Universal Pictures reportedly acquired the movie rights to the singer's bestselling memoir titled The Woman in Me, with Jon and Marc taking the charge of developing the project. The critically acclaimed memoir was released last year in October and sold over 2.5 million copies in the US.
