Kesha has thanked her "idiot ex" for being the inspiration for her new single titled Delusional. Released on November 29, the song is the second single from her upcoming sixth studio album. It is co-written by Kesha, Zhone, and Madison Love.
Delusional is an emotionally charged song in which the Los Angeles songstress faces her ex-lover, who is seemingly unable to confront reality. The lyrics reference how her ex inspired the singer to write the song. She describes her past lover as "just another song on my setlist" before singing:
"Baby you're delusional/Thinking you could ever find/Something that's as beautiful/Someone with a love like mine."
Even before the release of Delusional, Kesha established a clear connection between the song and her former lover. On November 26, she hinted that her ex should be worried about her new song's release.
"My ex should hide on Friday," she wrote on X.
She followed this with a 12-second snippet of the song on YouTube, stating:
"Thanks to my idiot ex. U inspired my best song yet."
However, Kesha hasn't revealed the identity of her ex or any details about their relationship.
Kesha once revealed how Taylor Swift party led to her breakup
In an interview with ELLE, published on October 3, 2024, Kesha opened up about her split with her ex. The Delusional songstress recalled how her former beau allegedly ended things with her because she refused to take him to a Taylor Swift party. She further alleged that he was with her solely for the celebrity connections.
"The second it came out of my mouth, I was like, ‘This is my first single.’ It was me busting the door back down and saying, ‘No, no, it’s time to party again!’ "We’re going to start with having fun, and then I’m going to try to dismantle all the shady. I had a feeling that he was in it for the wrong reasons and was a bit of a starf*cker” she told ELLE.
To test her theory, she took one of her friends to a party thrown by Taylor Swift instead of her then-boyfriend. According to her, he broke up with her the very next day.
Despite the breakup, Kesha expressed enjoyment in her own company. She talked about taking herself on vacations, buying herself expensive gifts, and enjoying life without needing anyone else's. She also revealed one criterion that might convince her to get into a relationship again:
"I’m only going to enter into a partnership again if someone treats me as well as I treat myself. I kept hearing people say, ‘I’m looking for The One.’ I kept waiting for somebody else to fill that space, and then I just stepped into it myself. You gotta be all those things to yourself—your own boyfriend, sugar daddy, rich husband, best friend, cheerleader."
In just one day, Delusional has been streamed over 50,000 times on YouTube. The singer also released another single called Joyride from her upcoming sixth studio album on July 4, 2024. The music video for the song was released on November 19, 2024, and has already amassed over 700,000 views on YouTube.
