At the 59th Academy of Country Music Awards on May 17, Ashley McBryde and Noah Reid took to the stage to deride Morgan Wallen for his recent chair-throwing incident and arrest. While presenting the “Single of the Year” award to Luke Combs for his song Fast Car, McBryde dedicated a song to his co-presenter, adding sassy new lyrics to Reid’s nominated song.

“Do you have a star bar? Is it down on lower Broadway? Oh, you don’t? Me neither. I’ve heard good things about Eric’s place,” she sang.

In response, Reid sang his rendition of Morgan Wallen’s nominated song Last Night (a track about partially losing memory after a night of drinking) with funny and altered lyrics.

“Last night after some alcohol, [that] chair right over there really started to p*ss me off. It told me that I threw it at somebody I never met, and my publicist keeps telling me this ain’t over yet,” he sang.

Not only that, but the Franklin star mocked Wallen’s grin in the mugshot image and suggested he should have “smiled” instead.

All about Morgan Wallen's viral mugshot and arrest

On April 7, Morgan Wallen was arrested after he allegedly threw a chair from the sixth floor of Eric Church’s bar Chief’s in Nashville, Tennessee. He is currently out on bail and is in New Jersey as part of his ongoing One Night At A Time tour. He did not attend the 2024 ACM Awards at Texas’ Ford Center at The Star, where he was nominated for six awards.

He is facing three felony counts of reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct and is scheduled to appear before the court on August 15. He issued a statement two weeks after the incident via X and wrote:

"I didn't feel right publicly checking in until I made amends with some folks. I’ve touched base with Nashville law enforcement, my family, and the good people at Chiefs. I'm not proud of my behavior, and I accept responsibility.”

He followed it up in the comment section, writing,

“I have the utmost respect for the officers working every day to keep us all safe. Regarding my tour, there will be no change."

Morgan Wallen’s lawyer, Worrick Robinson, told reporters earlier this month that it was a “complicated case” and would require “subpoenas and witnesses.” He also predicted a “hearing” or a settlement, and even a continuation, adding they were not looking to “enter a plea of any type” at this point.
